Artist Statement
Why do I do the work I do? I make (mostly) pottery because I like it and I have a knack for it. Originally, my goal as an artist was t only make two dimensional artworks because I believed that drawing was the only thing I was good at. Now I know better. I am not afraid of doing three dimensional pieces now, frankly I am more comfortable with it. What usually motivates me into making art is my mood. And my mood depends on the weather; is it sunny and shining or is it dreary with killer intent.
Usually when I start a new piece on the wheel, I have no idea what I’m going to throw. Sometimes I come in with a game plan and other times I look around at my classmates and surroundings to see what they’re doing and see if I want to make what their making. I prefer to make functional ceramic pieces because I want them to be useful. And when I make gifts for people, I want them to be able to use that piece and I want them to say that they use it all t time, that it has a purpose.
The things that I am currently working on as an artist is making larger/smaller pottery. I want to be able to make huge serving bowls or platters. As I slowly started to grasp and master the basics of pottery, I wanted to continue exploring it and test out my luck with making bigger things.
